Did You Know This About Halloween?

It's the last day of October. Everybody knows that. But did you know why people dress into scary costumes and go all around the street? Well, it comes from an old belief that at the end of October the gate between our world and "The Other World" (you could also say The "Kingdom Of Death") opens for that one single night, and lost souls can come on this Earth and hurt the living.

In order to protect themselves against those evil souls people dress in weird and spooky costumes to scare those lost souls away! I don't know if that's true, that’s what I've learned from my English Teacher. What’s your explanation? Please, let me know, will you?

This is partly true, some more mischievious sprites are believed to come through the veil that has thinned so much.

The rest of the lore is that this was part of the Rememberance celebrations. Now was the time to remember those who had gone before. People would set an extra plate in case the deceased came to visit and fill it with their favourite foods. No one would talk throughout the meal in honour of the dead who could no longer speak.

So, while there is a dark side to this time of year, there is a bright side as well. I prefer to celebrate the bright side more and I do set a plate of food in honour of those who have gone before. That food is then put out in the garden (I don't serve meat on that plate) to benefit the good sprites and encourage mischievious ones to behave themselves (thus the foundation of trick-or-treat too!)

May you remember with happiness your ancestors and what they brought to your life.
